Old Ladoga, the Bridge between East and West
Old Ladoga village is situated in Volhovsky district of Leningrad region, close to the estuary of the river Volhov. The village stretches its territory from North to South shaped like a narrow stripe about three kilometers along the bank of the Volhov, the width of this area from the bank of the river to the West is 100 – 300 meters. The territory of today’s Ladoga was formed in the remote XII-XIII centuries and up to the present day it has not been on the turn. Until the XVII century Old Ladoga merely called Ladoga was an important political, commercial and economical center of ancient Russia. Ladoga is considered to be the first capital of Russia, its role is highly evaluated in the history of Russian statehood.
