The grave of Oleg the Oracular

Behind the church of the nativity of St. John the Baptist in urochizche Sopki a big hill is towering. The citizens of Ladoga think it’s the grave of Oleg the Oracular. The mound called by chronographer Nestor in the XII century the grave of Oleg the oracular, in 1820 was dug out by the famous Polish archeologist and ethnographer Zorian Dolenga-Hadakovsky. He discovered the remains of entombment according to the way of incineration and a spearhead. The huge boulders lay around the mound, the same boulders were also found under the grave. There are mounds of a smaller size aside.

The burial hills groups can be seen at the southern border of Old Ladoga and in urochizche Pobedizche as well as on the bank of Volhov across the Old Ladoga fortress in urochische Plakun.
