Volhov is 70 years old. Everything is at the very beginning

Therefore the New Year will become a double holiday for the citizens of this industrial regional center. The most important fact is that the city’s administration with the support of regional Government has solved many problems until the anniversary date; the 70th anniversary of Volhov is the time of projects and plans based on the real actions and the realized projects. The mayor of municipal education Alexey Larkin told about it at ITAR-TASS office. During the last four years the quantity of production has been increasing in Volhov: from 10 up to 20 %, the number of the new enterprises is growing, the wages are growing too. In general, notices the mayor, at the moments of the most important breakthroughs of the national science and engineering, Volhov always turned to be in avant-garde. Exactly here in 1926 the first hydroelectric plant started to work, today it is functioning and it’s being upgraded. A few years after the hydroelectric plant had been put on, the construction of the new aluminium plant began nearby. Already at the beginning of 30s the country was provided with the first industrial aluminium. A railway road junction that would become the biggest in the Northwest region of Russia was launched here in 1933. Today 25 % of transportation in Leningrad region of Oktyabrskaya railway road are carried out through Volhov.

Volhov’s department of Oktyabrskaya railway road and Volhovsky Aluminium are the central enterprises for the city. These enterprises are the main taxpayers to the local and federal budgets, therefore are the subjects of the main attention. It’s good that both enterprises are developing. The railroad junction Volhov was acknowledged to be the best according to the reports of the industry in the third quarter of 2003. Besides the construction of the big maintenance shop for the electric locomotives and disel locomotives is close to the end at the department of Oktyabrskaya railroad. It means that the opportunity to give workplaces to more than 200 people will appear. The aluminium plant is developing too, the investors have a determined program of its advancement.

The municipal education projects to attract 120 million rubles of investment. “We have very big operating areas requiring recreation, says Alexey Larkin, that’s why we offer very good immunities to our investors.” Undoubtedly the development of Volhov illustrates in general the questions of the development of the towns of Russia that are under the special state control; it’s enough to remember the visit of the President to Old Ladoga and his meeting dedicated to this question. Volhov demonstrates the precise policy of the Government of Leningrad region elaborated to support the towns; the whole region consists of these towns that require attention and good life conditions. For example, the main directions of the strategic program of the development until the year 2010 are elaborated and being realized in Volhov. The main target of the program is the growth of welfare and the improvement of life conditions of the population. The heads of the city suppose that it is possible to reach this aim by preserving and developing the production, expanding transport infrastructure, increasing the educational potential and creating the effective system of social security and service. The 70th anniversary of Volhov that is going to be the public celebration is marked by the fulfillment of the real actions.
