Russian Archaeological expedition is looking for volunteers to work in the expedition in St.Petersburg surroundings for July - August, 2004.
Archaeological investigation on Gostinopol'e Settlement, Volkhov distr. Len.obl, Russia, 2004, July - August.

Monument
Gostinopol'e - a medieval settlement appeared in 11-12 c. AD. mentioned in Russian and German Chronicles and deeds of 13th c. situated in a very nice, especially in Summer time, place, on a small hill full of greenery, near the ruines of stone 19 century church , 150 km from St.Petersburg, 50 km from the Volkhov town, on the bank of Volkhov river.

Expedition
The North-West expedition of St.Petersburg University and Staraya Ladoga museum create investigations on Russian North-West medieval monuments. The ma in sources of finances are non-budjet organizations in Russia and abroad. Our Expedition has 9 units that excavate medieval monuments in Luga, Volkhov, Plussa, Syas' and Mshaga basins every year.
Tesovsky unit of North-West expedition was created in 1994. Instead of studying Tesovo settlement we also investigate medieval Ivangorod Road, founded a number of late medieval stone crosses in Tesovo surroundings, etc. Our unit works in close contact with the cultural anthropologists from European University in
St.Petersburg, so we try to make our investigation interdisciplinary.

Dates of work
Expedition start on July, 20, finish on August, 11 (3 weeks). After the expedition You can participate in the excursion to Staraya Ladoga - ancient capital of Russia. This costs additionally EURO 15.

Volunteers
We look for the volunteers of 21-40 years age from all over the world.

Participation
Unfortunatelly, Our Institute can not pay anything to the volunteers. You are to come to Russia by Your own and pay about 60 EURO for a week. The payment include the organization fees, transport from St.Petersburg to Gostinopol'e monument and meals.

Accomodation
The volunteers live in tents, cook on fire by turns, in a nice camp near the Gostinopol'e settlement.
